Training starts mid Novemeber with 3 weeks of OBS in Lumut Perak which includes several sea / land expeditions. It is said that the 3 weeks will be gruelling and a test of both physical and mental fitness. I'm kinda looking forward to do something different from 4 years of engineering work. Hopefully I'll emerge a "better" man from OBS. LOL.
My colleagues (lunch khaki's) actually got together and gave me a farewell present. I'm absolutely touched man and the present was a scaled model of the Airbus A380-800 jet. I just love it man, and in fact I'm thinking of starting a collection of other plane models. Heres a picture of it...

Its a really nice model, unfortunately the picture I took of it is a little shabby and doesn't really do it justice.
Its a 1:200 scaled model and the actual physical dimensions of the plane are as below.
| Length | 73 m (239 ft 6 in) | |
| Span | 79.8 m (261 ft 10 in) | |
| Height | 24.1 m (79 ft 1 in) | |

Looks like its time to announce my major plans / changes in my life. Afterall, I have already disclosed this information to some of my colleagues and friends, so here it goes... (drum rolls please)
Well, I have been offered the position of Cadet Pilot with a major airline. Yes, I'm making a mid career change to train for 3 years to become a commercial pilot.
It is certainly a difficult decision to make due to the risks involved in making a career change. This choice also greatly affects my family (especially my wife) since we would have to be apart for quite a period of time during my training. Fortunately, my wife has been really understanding and supports me in my decision.
Being a pilot is one of my childhood ambitions and I am absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity. The thought of flying a multi-million dollar machine from one corner of the world to another as a job really excites me. Weeks of stressful and busy preparations for the interviews / tests and the suspense / agony of waiting for the results really isn't something I want to go through a second time. I'm glad I got through eventually.
My training starts mid November, straight after the last day of my current job. Gosh, no more holidays for the next 3 years....

This is my very first attempt to start a blog after almost 30 years of my life!!! :) So please bear with me if there are any parts which are not adequate.
The main reason for starting this blog is to act as an informal mode of communication between myself and the people around me as I move into another major phase of my life. These "people" include my wife, family, friends and also anyone who is interested.
As for the major phase / change in my life, I will be blogging about that in due time.
Till then,
Cheers
